IDC External Bursary Programme 2024

  • Description: The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) is offering the IDC External Bursary Programme for the 2024 academic year. Applications are open from July 1, 2023, to September 30, 2023.
  • Eligibility: Open to unemployed South African citizens with financial needs, intending to study full-time towards Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) qualifications, including Accounting/Financial Studies and Law.
  • Fields of Study: The bursary covers various fields including Applied Commercial Sciences, Engineering, Bachelor of Law, Accounting (CA), Internal Audit, Cost and Management Accounting, Financial Management, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Investment Management, Actuarial Science, Environmental Science, Quantitative Risk Management, Physics, Agricultural Studies, Quantitative Finance, Economics, and Econometrics.
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • Applicants must be studying towards their first undergraduate qualification.
    • Applicants must be South African citizens under 25 years old.
    • Preference given to applicants from Quintile 1, 2, & 3 schools, previously disadvantaged communities, and rural areas.
    • Household income of up to R350,000 p/a (up to R600,000 p/a may be considered).
    • Weighting system considers disability, academic performance, and university admission.
  • Requirements: Compulsory documents include South African ID, 2023 mid-year results or latest results, Matric certificate (if applicable), proof of parents’ or guardians’ income, relevant certificates (e.g., death, divorce), and others as specified.
  • Bursary Coverage: Covers full tuition fees, accommodation, a once-off laptop, meal allowance, and transport allowance.
