ASSET’s objectives include boosting the influx of new talent into finance and accountancy, fostering skill development, and promoting transformation within the sector. The introduction of the Bursary Scheme serves as a means to fulfill these objectives. This bursary aims to encourage employers to financially support learners in completing their tertiary education. It covers full tuition, accommodation, meals, and books.
Areas of Study: Only qualifications aligned with FASSET’s identified scarce skills will receive funding. Details can be found on the FASSET website under the section titled “The list of FASSET’s top ten scarce skills for 2017/18.” These scarce skills encompass various occupations such as accountants, ICT professionals, management consultants, financial markets professionals, and others.
Requirements for the FASSET Bursary: Applicants must fulfill the following criteria:
- Be in their penultimate or final year of undergraduate studies.
- Be a Black South African citizen or a colored South African citizen from the Western Cape or Northern Cape, or a disabled candidate of any race.
- Enroll in full-time undergraduate studies at a recognized public South African tertiary institution.
- Intend to pursue a qualification linked to the top ten scarce skills list.
- Have a total combined household income between R123,000 and R600,000 per annum.
