Thousands of young girls find themselves in situations that are almost impossible to get out of. Some of them end up with unplanned and unwanted pregnancies. There are many reasons for teenage pregnancies ranging from peer pressure to dysfunctional families. Problems associated with unplanned baby are known and teenagers know them as well but still fall into the trap. What do you do when faced by this problem and knowing very well that a baby might put an end to all your future dreams and that your parents are going to be angry and disappointed?
1. You can tell your parents and hope that they eventually come to terms with this and support you. Secondly you have to decide whether you are going to carry the pregnancy to term or not. Keeping the baby will mean that a lot of changes to your life. There are challenges associated with raising the baby. You will need a lot of support from loved ones both financially and psychologically.
2. You may put the baby up for adoption and you are left with no burden of raising a child. You can go on with your life. You can speak to your health care provider who will assist you in this matter. Do not take the baby home with you if you feel that you cannot cope because you will end up throwing it in a bin.
3. You can go for termination of pregnancy or abortion. Termination of pregnancy has its challenges: medically, psychologically and spiritually., so your problems do not completely go away. It is also very dangerous if done by an unskilled person. It might end up with loss of life. There is also a great chance of getting infection which will put you at risk of losing your uterus. You might bleed excessively and end up losing your uterus. Once bleeding and sepsis cannot be controlled, you may need to undergo an operation to remove your uterus. Without the uterus there is no chance of getting pregnant again in future. With repeated abortions, your will end up with a uterus that cannot carry a baby to term in future. Termination of pregnancy needs to be done by a skilled doctor or nurse at the clinic or hospital. It is crucial to contact your health care provider if you want to do it.
